EXPLORING THE THEMES OF FREEDOM, PAIN AND BEAUTY IN KHALIL GIBRAN’S NOVELLA THE PROPHET USING SYSTEMATIC FUNCTIONAL LINGUISTICS
Abstract
Numerous theories have been successful in accounting for aspects of language. One of the most substantial theories is Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics (often SFL), which has been employed in the literature on linguistics and applied linguistics. Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) is a useful and indeed powerful tool for the analysis of the text. This paper aims to validate Halliday's SFL with a focus on the Theory of Transitivity, specifically material and mental processes of ideational meta-function of language. The researchers have explored the themes of Freedom, Pain, and Beauty in Khalil Gibran’s novella, The Prophet using various transitivity processes.
